MyBuzz Technologies Founder, Chris Pimlott, opens up about the core principles behind MyShiftPlanner and MyShiftManager.

So, Why Are We Doing This?

I ask myself that question quite a lot …

When I first built MyShiftPlanner 13 years ago, I wasn’t thinking about “disrupting an industry,” “scaling a SaaS business,” or “product–market fit.”

I was thinking about family.

A close family member worked shifts at an airport. Like so many shift workers, he found it almost impossible to plan his life around his roster. Important family events were missed, time with loved ones was lost and the stress of not knowing what time he would be working week to week took its toll.

So I built a small app that let him see his shifts clearly and plan life around them. Nothing complicated, just a practical way of bringing visibility and control into a world where both were often missing.

That was the start of MyShiftPlanner.

What’s Changed Since Then?

The technology has certainly evolved. Our app now supports hundreds of thousands of shift workers across industries as varied as aviation, healthcare, retail and emergency services. The business has grown too, from a single idea to a team dedicated to solving the problems of shift-based work.

But our principle hasn’t changed. We’re still here to help people who work shifts. To make their lives a little easier, and to help them hold onto the things that really matter — time with family, time to rest, time to live.

A Hidden Part of the Problem

One thing that became clear over the years is that behind every worker is a manager. And those managers are often dealing with fragmented systems, spreadsheets, or legacy tools that make scheduling harder than it needs to be.

When scheduling doesn’t work, everyone suffers. Workers don’t get the visibility they need, and managers spend more time fixing problems than leading their teams.

That’s why we built MyShiftManager. To give small and medium-sized teams a straightforward, reliable system that makes sense of the bigger picture, without the headaches of complex enterprise software.

Why We’re Doing This!

So why are we doing this?

Because the problem hasn’t gone away. In fact, for many industries, aviation included, it’s more urgent than ever. Labour shortages, retention challenges and the high stakes of 24/7 operations make effective scheduling critical.

And yet, at the core, it’s still about people.

Just as it was 13 years ago, my motivation hasn’t changed: to give people the visibility and control they need to manage shift work without losing sight of what really matters.

For workers, that means clarity, confidence, and the ability to plan their lives.

For managers, that means time saved, less stress, and happier, more reliable teams.

Because shift work will always be demanding, but managing it doesn’t have to be.
